LARC Character Illustrations
Long acting reversible contraception (LARC) are methods of birth control that provide effective contraception for an extended period of time without requiring user action. They include injections, intrauterine devices (IUDs) and sub-dermal implants. They are the most effective reversible methods of contraception because they do not depend on patient compliance. So their ‘typical use’ failure rates, at less than 1% per year, are about the same as ‘perfect use’ failure rates.
Working with the NHS Milton Keynes Sexual Health team I was asked to create a few characters that would be used to enforce the campaign and its message to a young generation in Milton Keynes.
I produced 5 characters in total to represent 4 different contraceptions available for girls. They were developed from initial sketching and taken through to digital characters. The extra male character was brought in to communicate that even though the contraception is for girls there is no reason why male figures should not be aware of the options available. The campaign involved creating characters and the branding. To see more of the process click on the Behance icon below.
